My Teaching |
I have been teaching the flute in Sheffield since 1991. I can also teach piccolo and have taught descant and treble recorder to grade 8 level. I give private lessons at home, and also work at the Sheffield Music Academy and Ashdell Preparatory School. I have the Licentiate's Diploma in Flute Teaching from the Guildhall School of Music. I also have CRB enhanced clearance for working with children, which is regularly updated. |
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. |
I teach children and adults of all standards and I really enjoy my work. I have taken many pupils from beginner level at age 7 or 8 through to the day they left secondary school. I also have adult pupils who have come back to the instrument after many years, as well as others who were complete beginners. What I want most is for my students to enjoy learning to play. |
I regularly enter pupils for examinations up to Grade 8 with the Associated Board. I can teach the aural section up to grade 5, and will help pupils to make alternative arrangements for higher grades. I teach theory up to grade 5. I am also happy to take pupils who just want to enjoy learning an instrument without the pressure of examinations. |
I encourage my pupils to join ensembles both in and out of school. Many of them have become involved in activities run by Sheffield Music Services, and some have been members of The City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and Sheffield Youth Orchestra. |
I don't accompany pupils myself, but I use computer technology to give pupils as much practice with an accompaniment as I can. I also have an excellent accompanist who has been playing for my pupils' exams for many years, and whose charges are very reasonable. |
